The Kansas City Chiefs did so/so in last April’s NFL Draft
The Kansas City Chiefs got some nice big guys in last year’s NFL Draft, but they didn’t get much else. Here is a look at how the rookies did in 2012:
st round (#11 overall) – Dontari Poe, NT/DT – 22-year old Dontari Poe played in all 16 games for the Chiefs last year and he had 38 tackles, 4 passes defensed and 3 tackles for a loss. The Chiefs think he has a nice upside.
nd round (#44 overall) – Jeff Allen, OG – 23-year old Jeff Allen played in 16 games (13 starts) for the Chiefs last year. He is likely going to be a starter for the Chiefs for a long time.
rd round (#74 overall) – Donald Stephenson, OT – 24-year old OT Donald Stephenson played in 16 games (7 starts) for the Chiefs last year. He will get a shot to nail down a starting job in training camp.
th round (#107 overall) – Devon Wylie, WR – 24-year old Devon Wylie didn’t get much of a chance to show what he can do in 2012. He played in 6 games for the Chiefs last year and he caught 6 passes for 53 yards (8.8 avg). He caught 6 of 12 passes (50%) thrown in his direction and 2 of his catches resulted in first downs. Wylie also returned 5 punts for 26 yards (5.2 avg) and 9 kickoffs for 191 yards (21.2 avg) in 2012.
th round (#146 overall) – DeQuan Menzie, CB – 22-year old DeQuan Menzie missed his whole 2012 season due to a hamstring injury.
th round (#182 overall) – Cyrus Gray, RB – 23-year old Cyrus Gray played in 10 games for the Chiefs last year and he carried the ball 7 times for 44 yards (6.3 ypc). He also caught 2 passes for 18 yards (9.0 avg) and he returned 1 kickoff for 33 yards.
th round (#218 overall) – Jerome Long, DE – 22-year old Jerome Long didn’t make the cut for the Chiefs. He hooked on with the Jaguars, but he didn’t play in any games for them in 2012.
th round (#238 overall) – Junior Hemmingway, WR – 24-year old Junior Hemmingway played in 1 game for the Chiefs last year, but he didn’t catch any passes.
